CONCORD - Gov. John Lynch announced today that he will nominate Lisa Shapiro of Canterbury, chair of the benefits subcommittee of the Retirement Study Commission, to serve on the board of the New Hampshire Retirement System at Wednesday’s Governor and Council meeting. If the Executive Council approves the nomination, Gov. Lynch intends to designate Shapiro as chairman of the board.
“Decisions made years ago on issues from accounting methods, special account funding, and investments, has left our Retirement System underfunded. We must ensure that our firefighters, police officers, teachers, municipal and state employees have a secure retirement,” Gov. Lynch said. “Lisa Shapiro is widely respected for her intellect and in-depth knowledge of economic and state policy. I am confident she will provide the expertise and the leadership needed on the board to help manage the retirement system, and ensure its viability for the future.”
Shapiro has been the chief economist at the Concord law firm of Gallagher, Callahan & Gartrell since 1994. She holds a Ph.D. in economics from Johns Hopkins University and has authored numerous economic articles and research papers. Shapiro currently serves on the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston’s New England Public Policy Center Advisory Board, and recently chaired the benefits subcommittee of the commission that examined the New Hampshire Retirement System.
Shaprio would replace Charlton MacVeagh of Marlborough who did not seek reappointment to the board.
