CONCORD - Gov. John Lynch and the Executive Council this week recognized Peter Davis of Bedford as July’s New Hampshire Volunteer of the Month. Gov. Lynch and the Executive Council presented Davis with a commendation at a ceremony in the State House.
Gov. Lynch partnered with VolunteerNH! to create the New Hampshire Volunteer of the Month awards. The honorees are selected on a rotating basis by Executive Council district by VolunteerNH!.
“Volunteerism is the backbone of New Hampshire’s strong sense of community, and helps to foster the high quality of life of which we are so proud. As Governor, I believe it is important to recognize these volunteer efforts as a way to encourage more people to get involved and continue to make New Hampshire a great place to work and live,” Gov. Lynch said.
Davis was chosen Volunteer of the Month in recognition of his volunteer work for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of the Manchester area since May 2005. He has given more than 200 hours of his time to helping seniors navigate the complex health insurance system, allowing them to receive the care that they need. Davis also devotes much of his time to helping inmates at the Hillsborough County Jail. He participates in one-on-one weekly counseling for critical thinking and decision making with inmates, facilitates the Houses of Healing Program, leads group sessions and teaches GED and English as a Second Language courses at the jail.
Nominations for the monthly awards are currently being accepted and will continue to be accepted throughout the year. Nominees will be considered for the New Hampshire Volunteer of the Month Award and for a category award at the annual Spirit of New Hampshire Awards. Details and nomination materials are available on the Volunteer NH! Web site at www.volunteernh.org or by calling 1-800-780-8058.
