CONCORD - Gov. John Lynch today signed two bills honoring New Hampshire service men and women.
“Throughout our history, soldiers, sailors and airmen have risked their lives for our freedom. All of our troops have sacrificed so that we can be free - free to worship as we please, free to speak out against injustice, free to live without fear of oppression,” Gov. Lynch said. “I am honored to sign both of these bills into law today in recognition of the military service of our men and women.”
Senate Bill 223 creates the New Hampshire Medal of Honor to be awarded to any New Hampshire citizen killed during active military duty. Senate Bill 27 requires the POW/MIA flag be displayed at all state-owned facilities. Current law requires the flag to be flown above the State House everyday.
“With these two new laws we recognizing the sacrifices made by the brave New Hampshire men and women who have fought for our freedoms with dignity and courage,” Gov. Lynch said.
SB 223 is sponsored by Sens. Robert Letourneau, Robert Clegg, Joseph Kenney, Jack Barnes, Ted Gatsas; and Reps. Pamela Coughlin, John Graham, Frank Bishop, Ken Hawkins. SB 27 is sponsored by Sens. Barnes, Letourneau, Clegg, Gatsas, Kenney, John Gallus, Sheila Roberge, and Rep. Bishop.
