CONCORD - Gov. John Lynch today signed a law establishing Firefighters Memorial Day in New Hampshire.
“Here in New Hampshire we are fortunate to have so many brave men and women dedicated to protecting our safety through their work in the fire service. Our firefighters are there for us, putting themselves at risk to protect us each and every day. They are dedicated to their profession, and they do it with honor and dignity, and they answer the call of duty without question,” Gov. Lynch said.
House Bill 135 establishes the second Sunday in October as Firefighters Memorial Day to honor those killed or disabled in the line of duty, and those still serving.
“Today, with this new law, we are ensuring we will not forget the sacrifices made by our brave firefighters,” Gov. Lynch said. “It is a fitting tribute to the men and women of such a noble profession who do so much for us.”
The legislation was sponsored by Reps. Albert Weare and John DeJoie.
