Statement of Gov. John Lynch On the Death of Officer Michael Briggs
Gov. John Lynch released the following statement today on the death of Manchester Police Officer Michael Briggs:

"My thoughts and prayers, and those of my wife Susan, are with the family of Officer Briggs. Michael Briggs' courage, lifetime of service and commitment to others is an example for us all. His loss is one felt by all the people of New Hampshire.

"We also wish to extend our deepest condolences to Officer Briggs' brothers and sisters in the Manchester Police Department, whose professionalism and commitment to duty in the wake of this tragedy makes all of New Hampshire proud.

"The murder of a police officer strikes at the very heart and fabric of our society. And I expect the state will prosecute the person responsible for this heinous and cowardly crime to the fullest extent of the law.

"In honor of the memory of Officer Briggs, I am directing that all American and State flags be flown at half-staff until further notice. The people of New Hampshire honor the sacrifice of Officer Briggs, who gave his life protecting our state. I ask the citizens of our state to join me in supporting Officer Briggs' family and fellow officers in this difficult time."
