CONCORD - Gov. John Lynch, tourism officials and merchants today kicked off a media campaign reminding Massachusetts residents they don't have to cram their shopping in during Massachusetts' two-day "sales tax holiday" because they can shop sales tax-free in New Hampshire 365 days a year.
"New Hampshire has so much to offer visitors: beautiful scenery, vibrant and friendly communities, and activities from hiking to boating to amusement parks. We also offer our residents and visitors sales tax-free shopping every day of the year," Gov. Lynch said.
"Massachusetts is planning a sales tax "holiday" on August 12and August 13. We want to let our neighbors in Massachusetts know that they don't have to schedule their shopping or their holidays around the schedule of state government in Massachusetts. Because in New Hampshire, every day is a sales tax holiday," Gov. Lynch said.
Gov. Lynch announced the media campaign today. He was joined by George Bald, Commissioner of the Department of Resources and Economic Development, Alice DeSouza, Director of the Division of Travel and Tourism Development, Nancy Kyle, president of the Retail Merchants Association of New Hampshire, and Michelline Dufort, chair of the NH Lodging and Restaurant Association.
The campaign, run by New Hampshire's Division of Travel and Tourism Development will include print advertising in major newspapers, e-marketing and notices in New Hampshire Welcome Centers.
"Visitors who stay, shop and eat in New Hampshire are important to our economy, and I want to do everything possible as Governor to encourage more people to come to New Hampshire - whether it is for a week or for a few hours of shopping," Gov. Lynch said. "That is why, beginning this Sunday, we will once again be launching a media campaign to remind our friends in Massachusetts that they can always shop tax-free in beautiful New Hampshire."
