CONCORD - Gov. John Lynch today asked President Bush and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to begin a preliminary damage assessment in order to expedite the possible declaration of a federal disaster for New Hampshire. A federal major disaster declaration would make individuals, communities, businesses and state government eligible for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and other federal assistance.
"The flooding that began this weekend, and is still continuing, has caused major damage in many New Hampshire communities, and in the homes of many of our citizens. I am asking the President and FEMA to begin the preliminary damage assessment process in order to expedite the potential declaration of a federal disaster and the crucial assistance that would provide to New Hampshire citizens and communities," Gov. Lynch said.
FEMA must conduct a preliminary damage assessment to ensure that federal damage guidelines are met before the President declares a major disaster.
"Expediting this process is crucial to helping New Hampshire citizens and communities begin to rebuild," Gov. Lynch said.
