Governor Issues Proclamation To Honor Veterans Day, Proclaims November "Hire A Veteran" Month

CONCORD - Joined by veterans at a State House ceremony today, Gov. John Lynch issued a proclamation to honor Veterans Day and proclaimed November "Hire a Veteran" Month in New Hampshire.

"Our veterans made extraordinary sacrifices for all of us and they made our nation and the world a better place," Gov. Lynch said. "These brave men and women served to ensure that we would live in freedom and in security.

"None of the freedoms we cherish, the freedoms that we see as our birthright as Americans, would be possible without the sacrifices that millions of veterans have made throughout our nation's history," Gov. Lynch said.

In his proclamation, Gov. Lynch urged New Hampshire citizens to participate in some of the many Veterans Day events planned for this Friday. As people honor New Hampshire's veterans this week, Gov. Lynch also asked that they pause to remember the New Hampshire men and women who are currently serving in the Armed Forces.

Gov. Lynch also proclaimed November "Hire a Veteran" Month and encouraged New Hampshire businesses to hire qualified veterans.

"In the course of their service to our nation, our veterans also learned skills and honed work ethics that can make them a valuable employee for any company. Our veterans may come with unusual resumes, but business owners will also attest they come with exceptional skills," Gov. Lynch said. "I encourage our businesses to make a commitment to hiring veterans."

Gov. Lynch has taken a number of steps to honor New Hampshire's veterans. He signed legislation that provides for free tuition at New Hampshire's public colleges and universities for the New Hampshire children of men or women killed on active duty and legislation extending the veterans property tax credit to those who served in the Persian Gulf War, and in Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition, in his budget he added a new veterans services officer at the state Veterans Council - the first new services officer position in 20 years.

Copies of the proclamation follow.
