Limited Access Highways
The safety of volunteers is a primary concern of the New Hampshire Department of Transportation and for that reason sponsoring a "Limited Access Highway" involves the use of "maintenance providers" to accomplish litter removal because the safety of volunteers cannot be reasonably maintained on these high speed highways. Limited Access Highways requiring the use of "maintenance providers" include:
- All Interstate highways including I-95, I-93, I-89, I-293 and I-393
- The Turnpike System including the Blue Star, Central (F.E. Everett Turnpike), and the Spaulding Turnpikes
- NH Route 101 from Bedford to I-95.
Maintenance providers are private companies that, for a fee, perform litter removal activities under strict safety guidelines for a sponsoring group. Here's a list of currently approved maintenance providers:
Individuals or groups wishing to participate in the program can submit an application to the Sponsor-A-Highway Coordinator of the district in which the desired section of highway to be adopted is located. Download or view the Sponsor-A-Highway application package.
