are lessened. You won't have to drive around searching
for that mystery meter or walk miles through a downpour

rideshare, the fewer people on the roads creating
time-consuming traffic jams!

Now that we've convinced you that ridesharing is the way
to go, we're sure you have a few questions about the

How much does the NH Rideshare Program cost?
Nothing--it's a FREE carpool matching service for commuters looking to find alternatives to the single occupancy vehicle. The NH Rideshare Program helps commuters find another way to work that can save them expensive traveling costs, reduce congestion on NH roadways, and reduce air pollution.

Why should I rideshare?
1. Save Money--ridesharing will reduce your commuting cost--you could save hundreds or thousands over the course of a year. You'll save on gas, maintenance, tolls, and wear-and-tear on your vehicle when you rideshare.
2. Relax--Enjoy your commute when you rideshare--no more fighting traffic day-in and day-out on your own. When you rideshare you'll have somebody to talk to, share the driving, or perhaps do all the driving. When you rideshare you might find time to read the morning paper, eat breakfast, catch up on work or sleep, or carry on an intelligent conversation. You'll arrive at work and home more relaxed and less stressed!
3. Save the Environment--ridesharing takes cars off the road and thus reduces air pollution and traffic congestion. Ridesharing makes commuting more pleasant for everyone on the roads and preserves our precious NH environment.

What if I don't have a car?
That's okay because some commuters prefer to drive most or all of the time and might ask that you split operating expenses such as fuel costs, tolls, and parking expenses.

I'm already in a carpool, so what can the NH Rideshare Program do for me?
If your present carpool partner should ever decide not to carpool or if you are looking to add people to your carpool, enrolling in the NH Rideshare Program would prove beneficial. The NH Rideshare Program would furnish you with a list of commuters who could serve as back-ups or additional carpool partners.

I live in NH, but I work out-of-state... will NH Rideshare
be able to help me?

Yes--a large percentage of NH commuters enrolled in our program commute out-of-state.

Exactly how does the NH Rideshare Program work?
It's simple--just fill out an application online, over the phone (call 1-800-462-8707 or 603-271-4043), or fax or mail an application and wait to hear back from us. We'll search for matches and supply you with a list of commuters to call.

How long will it take me to receive my match list?
We try to process your application as quickly as possible and we usually shoot for a one week turnaround. We try to send out your match list within one week of receiving your application. If you have provided an e-mail address you will likely receive the information quicker than you would through the mail. We recommend including a current e-mail address on your application form so that you can receive your match list and any NH Rideshare updates in a timely manner.

What do I say when I call the people on my match list?
Explain why you are calling and ask to meet the other person in a public place for coffee or lunch to discuss the details of the rideshare arrangement.

What if I don't want to give out my home address
or last name?

Each match list contains a list of commuters, but to maintain a level of confidentiality home street addresses and last names are never given out. When you contact other commuters it is at your discretion to divulge additional personal information.

What if I feel uncomfortable carpooling with a stranger?
That's understandable, that's why we suggest that you meet potential carpool partners in a public place before you commit to carpooling. Meet, talk, and decide whether or not you would feel comfortable sharing a ride. If you still feel uncomfortable after meeting, you can simply choose not to pursue the rideshare arrangement. You are not obligated to carpool. If you do feel comfortable enough to rideshare, perhaps you could agree to a trial rideshare period to test the waters. If things don't work out, the rideshare arrangement ends, no string attached, and if the arrangement is mutually agreeable, you continue to rideshare.

Do I have to rideshare everyday?
Absolutely not--you and your rideshare partners can determine what arrangement works best for you. Some of the most successful carpools only operate a few days a week. Some people just find it more convenient to carpool one or two days a week because they're still able to save money by ridesharing a few days and they still have their own cars a few days a week to run errands. Discuss your situation and preference with your rideshare partners and figure out what arrangement works best for all involved!

What if NH Rideshare can't find me a match--
what else can I do?

Once you register with NH Rideshare you remain in the database until you request that your name be removed. That means that if no match is found for you today, there could be one found tomorrow, or next week, or next month. We will still search for matches for you.
Another option to consider would be to explore the possibility of transit services (such as bus or rail). You could also try to network with people at work or in your hometown and see if they know of anyone you could share a ride with. Also, if your worksite has a bulletin board you could place a notice stating that you are seeking a carpool partner who lives in your area.
