Bike Maps | White Mountain Region
Photos MapTerrain
From a cycling perspective, this region is the most physically challenging section of the state. Many of the roads go over mountain passes, which often include several miles of steady climbing followed by several miles of descent.

Traffic

Generally, traffic in this region is some of the lightest in the state, but can be heavy on summer weekends and during fall foliage. Traffic in this region can include recreation vehicles. In the northern part of this region, logging trucks can be a challenge, especially on narrow roads. Caution is recommended. Because of it's regional shopping draw, roads around North Conway often become heavily congested throughout the year.

Services

Services in this part of New Hampshire are generally scattered except near more populated areas or vacation and shopping destinations.

Highlights

The White Mountain Region is home to the 780,000 acre White Mountain National Forest and is generally regarded as the most scenic in New Hampshire. The route along the Connecticut River is a favorite of local cyclists because of it's scenery and relatively light traffic and flat terrain. The Kancamagus Highway, NH Route 112 between Lincoln and Conway, is also a very scenic, but challanging route.

The new revised NH Bicycle maps are now available on line. Maps are in Adobe Acrobat® PDF format. Each region has 2 Adobe files. The first is the map with suggested bicycle routes and the 2nd is the back of the map which has detailed information for that region. Select either side of the map by clicking on the picture to the left or choose from the list below:

These maps are still being refined. The final printed versions will be available in May 2008.
