Closure of Spaulding Turnpike Ramp at Exit 3 in Newington
Daytime Detour to Exit 1 to Access Woodbury Avenue

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) announces the planned daytime closure of the Spaulding Turnpike Exit 3 southbound off-ramp in Newington on weekdays from Monday, January 6 through Friday, January 17.

Between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm during the affected Monday through Friday periods, southbound motorists seeking to get off at Exit 3 to Woodbury Avenue will be directed to Exit 1. Electronic message boards will be used to alert motorists to the ramp closure, and detour signs will be in place to direct Exit 3 traffic to Exit 1. The timing of the traffic signal at the Gosling Road and Woodbury Avenue intersection will be adjusted to account for the additional traffic volumes on Gosling Road.

The ramp closure will allow for the removal and transfer of pavement from the bypassed closed section of the Spaulding Turnpike between Exit 3 and Exit 1.

This work is part of a 2.8 mile widening project on a section of the Spaulding Turnpike in Newington and Dover. It begins at Exit 1 (Gosling Road) in Newington and extends past Exit 5 northbound in Dover. It includes a new full interchanges at Exit 3 (Woodbury Avenue), with a new bridge over the Spaulding Turnpike carrying Exit 3 traffic and connecting to Arboretum Drive in the Pease Tradeport.

Alvin J. Coleman and Sons, Inc. of Conway, New Hampshire is the general contractor for the $43 million project, which has a completion date of July 2015.
