|Southbound I-93 Bridge Demolition at Exit 2 in Salem
NH 97/Pelham Rd. Traffic Detours and Lane Closures
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation announces night work associated with the construction of the Exit 2 Interstate 93 bridges in Salem. Bridge demolition operations for the old I-93 southbound bridge over Pelham Road will take place on the night of Thursday, December 5, 2013, weather permitting.
Construction operations will require traffic on NH Route 97/Pelham Road to be detoured from approximately 8:00 pm to 6:00 am. This detour will be in place to prevent traffic from traveling under the existing bridges while the old bridge is being removed. The detour route for NH 97/Pelham Road will be South Policy Road to Lowell Road to Stiles Road. No impacts to I-93 traffic are anticipated.
Message boards and detour signing will be in place to assist motorists through the detour. Motorists should remain alert while traveling through the construction zone and obey all posted signs.
The bridge being removed will be the 18th red listed bridge that has been removed under the overall I-93 widening project. The last remaining red listed bridge is scheduled to be removed in the fall of 2014.
This work is part of the I-93 widening and reconstruction project in the vicinity of Exit 2. The general contractor for the $41 million project is George R. Cairns & Sons, Inc., of Windham, New Hampshire.
