Changing Traffic Patterns Planned
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation announces upcoming traffic pattern changes associated with the intersection reconstruction project at US Route 1 (Lafayette Road) and the US Route 1 Bypass in Portsmouth.
Beginning on or about Tuesday, October 1, 2013, work will involve the relocation of the southbound traffic from Greenleaf Avenue to Greenleaf Woods Drive from its current location into the northbound side of the roadway to allow for reconstruction of the southbound side.
Northbound travel will be restricted to one lane for a three-week period while the Greenleaf Woods Drive intersection is built to its final configuration. Motorists should expect to encounter delays during peak volume hours, and are encouraged to allow extra travel time or seek alternate routes around the work zone.
Additionally, beginning on or about October 7, night work will resume on the Route 1 Bypass to erect structural steel at the Middle Road bridge. Northbound and southbound travel will be temporarily placed into one side of the highway from 7:00 pm to 6:00 am with brief (15 minute) stoppages. Uniformed officers and flaggers will assist motorists at the Borthwick Avenue and Greenleaf Avenue intersections. This work is anticipated to last one week.
