|Three Night Closure of Memorial Bridge in Portsmouth
Additional Night Added for Lift Adjustments
The Memorial Bridge carrying US Route 1 over the Piscataqua River in Portsmouth, New Hampshire - Kittery, Maine will be closed to motor vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic for five-hour periods on three consecutive nights, beginning tonight. Boat traffic on the Piscataqua River will not be affected.
The bridge's center lift span will be in the raised position from 12:01 am to 5:00 am on Tuesday, September 24, and again on Wednesday, September 25, and Thursday, September 26, during the same time periods. This will allow Archer Western Contractors (AWC) to make adjustments to the lift machinery on the new lift bridge.
Once this work is completed, the bridge will remain open to traffic until sometime in October when plaques salvaged from the previous Memorial Bridge will be re-mounted on the Portsmouth side of the new bridge.
