|Steel Erection Planned on Little Bay Bridge Project
Phase 2 of New Bridge in Dover-Newington on NH 16
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) announces the planned erection of structural steel on the Little Bay Bridge project on the Spaulding Turnpike (NH 16) in Newington-Dover is scheduled to take place from Tuesday, March 12 through Thursday, March 14, 2013.
Unlike Phase I, which involved the "float in" and simultaneous raising of four 155-foot long steel girders from a barge in April of 2012, the Phase 2 steel girders will be erected individually from two cranes working off the Phase 1 bridge deck. The majority of the Phase 2 structural steel has already been erected from the Dover and the Newington abutments to the main channel, leaving only the main channel gap to be filled in.
Anticipated hours for the girder lift and installation are 8:00 am to 12:00 pm each day. If operations are affected by adverse weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances, the schedule will be pushed to the next available work day.
The US Coast Guard and/or New Hampshire Marine Patrol will maintain a presence in the waterway, enforcing restrictions to navigation through the main channel each day during the installation of these girders.
