|Box Culvert Night Work to Begin on US 3 in Hooksett
US 3 to be Closed to Through Traffic at Night Beginning May 29
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) announces work is scheduled to begin the night of May 29, 2012 on a concrete box culvert installation on US Route 3 in Hooksett.
The 12-foot by 4-foot box culvert is will carry Dalton Brook from NH Route 28 Bypass across US 3/ NH Route 28, through the Benton Road side of Merchants Motors property where it will be released into the existing culvert on Benton Road. This project will prevent Dalton Brook from continuing to overflow during large rain events and flooding NH 28 Bypass.
During the night work, a small section of Route 3 will be closed to through traffic between the Clough Ave./ US 3 intersection and approximately the front of the New Canton restaurant. This road closure will be in place from about 9:00 pm to 6:00 am beginning Tuesday May 29, 2012 and lasting approximately one week. During night construction hours, traffic will be detoured using NH 28 Bypass to Whitehall Road to US 3 if heading southbound, and vice versa for northbound traffic. Message boards and police officers will be used to alert the traveling public of this detour.
This night road closure will accelerate the time to complete this portion of the project and significantly decrease the impact on traffic. US 3 will remain open to through traffic outside the nighttime construction hours. Access will be maintained to all businesses during their normal hours of operation.
The installation of the box culvert will be completed in October 2012. The completion date for the entire project is May 2013. R.S. Audley, Inc. of Bow, NH is the general contractor for the $4.4 million project.
