NH Turnpikes Announces Reduced Cost For E-ZPass Transponders

E-ZPass in New Hampshire is becoming an even better deal. As of April 1, 2012, internal (windshield-mounted) transponders will drop in price by 58% to $8.90. External, license plate-mounted transponders will drop in price by 54% to $15.19. Previous transponder costs were $20.95 and $33.04.

The new pricing change results from a contract with transponder manufacturer, Kapsch TrafficCom IVHS, Inc., which involves the 24 tolling agencies in 14 states in the E-ZPass Group. The more than 21 million transponders currently in use within the E-ZPass system will remain fully compatible. New Hampshire account holders will continue to receive a 30% discount for classes 1-4 and a 10% discount for classes 5 and over.

"Now, it's even cheaper to access the discount for New Hampshire accounts on New Hampshire toll roads. The lower price is just the latest benefit," says Bob Christensen, Toll Manager at the New Hampshire Department of Transpiration's Turnpikes Bureau. "Using E-ZPass provides a convenient way to pay your toll while traveling on toll roads in the fourteen Northeast, Midwest and Middle-Atlantic states that accept E-ZPass. Additionally, other states such as Florida and North Carolina are working with E-ZPass to accept these transponders in the near future."

E-ZPass use continues to grow in the region, due in large part to the convenience of not stopping to pay for tolls. This feature was greatly enhanced when Open Road Tolling (ORT) was installed at the Hampton Toll Plaza, and will see another major improvement when ORT is installed at the Hooksett Toll Plaza (expected opening date of June 2013). Currently, approximately 64% of all transactions on the New Hampshire Turnpike System use E-ZPass.

For more information on how to get E-ZPass or add additional transponders to an existing New Hampshire account, visit www.ezpassnh.com or call NH E-ZPass at 1-877-643-9727. There are also three E-ZPass Walk-in-Centers located in Hooksett, Nashua and Portsmouth.
