|Box Culvert Project To Resume On US Route 3 In Hooksett
Benton Road To Be Closed To Through Traffic On March 8
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) announces work is scheduled to start up on Monday, March 5, 2012 on the installation of a concrete box culvert on US Route 3 in Hooksett.
The 12-foot by 4-foot box culvert is being installed to carry Dalton Brook from the NH Route 28 Bypass under US 3/NH Route 28 through the Benton Road side of Merchant's Motors where it will be released into the existing culvert on Benton Road. This project is to prevent Dalton Brook from overflowing during large rain events and flooding the Route 28 Bypass.
The installation of the 1,000-foot long culvert will require the closure of Benton Road to through traffic from Dunkin Donuts to 200 feet west of Dalton Brook. This closure will extend from March 8, 2012 until the complete installation of the culvert adjacent to Benton Road.
A detour will be in place to maintain traffic through the construction area. This will allow limited access to the Dunkin Donuts and Goodwill Plaza, but both will remain open throughout the project. Benton Road traffic will be detoured onto Martins Ferry Road. Electronic message boards will be used to alert motorists to changing traffic patterns.
The installation of the box culvert will be completed in October 2012. The completion date for the entire project is May 2013. R.S. Audley, Inc. of Bow, New Hampshire is the general contractor for the $4.4 million project.
