|Bids Opened For Memorial Bridge Replacement Project
"Design-Build" Team Headed By Archer Western Is "Best Value" Team
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) announces the "design-build" team headed by Archer Western Contractors, of Chicago, Illinois is the apparent selected team for the replacement of the Memorial Bridge that carries U.S. Route 1 over the Piscataqua River between Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Kittery, Maine.
At today's bid opening in Concord, Archer Western submitted a bid price of $81,420,000 to replace the 88-year old lift bridge that was closed to motor vehicle traffic in July of this year. Based upon Archer Western's schedule, the new bridge would be open to motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic in July 2013.
"Today's bid opening is another important milestone in our aggressive approach in partnership with the Maine Department of Transportation towards building a new Memorial Bridge," says NHDOT Commissioner Christopher Clement. "We will get the successful bidder on the job to restore this vital transportation link between New Hampshire and Maine as soon as possible."
The design-build team was selected using a "Best Value" procurement process that considered the overall technical merit of the bridge replacement concepts, proposed construction schedules, and price.
Design-build is a method of project delivery in which the design and construction phases of a project are combined into one contract, with the goal of expediting project completion.
