New Castle-Rye Bridge On NH Route 1B To Be Closed For Repairs
Lift Bridge Over Little Harbor Posted For 15-Ton Weight Limit

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) announces necessary bridge repairs on the NH Route 1B Bridge over Little Harbor in New Castle-Rye will require the closure of the bridge to traffic on Friday, March 25, 2011. This bridge is located just south of the Wentworth by the Sea Hotel.

Following a review of an in-depth inspection, the 6-span lift bridge is also be posted for a 15-ton weight limit, effective today (March 23).

The bridge repair work hours on March 25 will be from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. All traffic should seek alternate routes during these hours. Pedestrian traffic will be allowed during the bridge repair work.

Built in 1942, this 253-foot long bridge has a grid steel deck that opens on request to accommodate boats entering or exiting Little Harbor. It has been on the state “Red List” since about 1994 and is scheduled for rehabilitation ($4.75 million) in 2013.
