|"Request For Qualifications" Issued For Memorial Bridge
"Design-Build" Replacement Project In Portsmouth, NH - Kittery, ME
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) and the Maine Department of Transportation have issued a "Request for Qualifications" (RFQ) for companies and/or design teams interested in wishing to submit proposals to design and construct the Memorial Bridge replacement project through a design-build contract.
The RFQ can be found on the NHDOT website at the following link: http://www.nh.gov/dot/projects/portsmouthkittery13678f/index.htm.
RFQ submissions are due by March 18, 2011 at 3:00 pm.
Under the design-build approach, design and construction aspects of a project are contracted by a single entity. The result is an overlap of the design and construction phases that aims at cost efficiencies and accelerating the completion of the project.
The Memorial Bridge carrying U.S. Route 1 over the Piscataqua River between Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Kittery, Maine was built in 1923. The estimated $90 million project to replace the vertical lift bridge is expected to take 18 months to complete once construction gets underway.
