Initial work on the Dover side of the bridge will impact Hilton Drive, Dover Point/Boston Harbor Road, and the pedestrian/bicycle pathways for Hilton Park, Pomeroy Cove, and the General Sullivan Bridge. On the Newington side of the bridge, impacts will be to Shattuck Way and the General Sullivan Bridge pedestrian/bicycle pathway. The NHDOT anticipates the complete closure of the pedestrian/bike pathways for construction work activities as follows:
Additionally, Hilton Drive from Dover Point/Boston Harbor Road will be closed between Hilton Park West and Hilton Park East for bridge construction starting October 6, 2010. Detour signage will be in place to assist motorists from Hilton Park West to Hillton Park East via Route 16. Construction activities on the project began on Friday, September 10, 2010. The new four-lane bridge, in addition to the rehabilitation of the existing Little Bay Bridge, will double the traffic capacity and improve safety along this section of the Spaulding Turnpike. Cianbro Corporation of Pittsfield, Maine is the general contractor for the $50.3 million project, which has a final completion date of November 2013. |
