| Memorial Bridge Inspection Work to Continue on May 20
4-hour Morning Closure For Portsmouth-Kittery US 1 Structure The New Hampshire Department of Transportation announces more inspection work at the Memorial Bridge in Portsmouth will require an additional complete closure of the bridge to all motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic for a four-hour period, 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM, on Thursday, May 20, 2010. This bridge carries U.S. Route 1 over the Piscataqua River between Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Kittery, Maine. Additional intermittent bridge lifts associated with the bridge inspection may result in some motor vehicle and pedestrian delays on Wednesday, May 19 and Thursday, May 20. Flag persons, electronic message signs, and warning signs will be used to notify motorists of the bridge closure. Motorists and pedestrians traveling between Portsmouth and Kittery are asked to use alternate routes if possible to avoid delays. In the event of adverse weather, the inspection work may be delayed until the next suitable workday. |
