|New “Twitter” Option Providing Real Time Traffic Alerts For Interstate 93
Purpose Is To Quickly Provide Traffic Information
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation’s Transportation Management Center (TMC) has created its first Twitter home page to assist in the dissemination of high priority traffic alerts to “followers” via email and/or text messages right to their phones.
Twitter is a widely known and accepted Web site that many states are using as part of their transportation management programs for notifying the public of critical traffic alerts. Twitter gives the NHDOT’s Transportation Management Center the ability to notify travelers of real-time traffic and road conditions before they encounter a congested area by sending a text message directly to phones or emails, providing an immediate one-way notification to “followers” when an event occurs.
The first NHDOT Twitter home page is set up strictly for Interstate 93. In the near future, the Transportation Management Center will create Twitter home pages for additional interstates, turnpikes and routes.
To view the NHDOT I-93 Twitter home page, go to the following Web page http://twitter.com/nhdoti93. To become a “follower” of this group, sign up for a personal account, and then follow the group ‘NHDOTI93’. You will then begin receiving real time traffic alerts for I-93.The NHDOT strongly encourages motorists to use this new service responsibly. Have your passenger get the information or “Know before you go!”.
