PORTSMOUTH LIFT BRIDGE INSPECTION WILL IMPACT TRAFFIC
MEMORIAL BRIDGE CARRYING U.S. ROUTE 1 TO KITTERY, ME

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation announces the inspection of the lift machinery at the Memorial Bridge in Portsmouth will take place from Monday, July 9 through Friday, July 13, 2001. The bridge carries U.S. Route 1 over the Piscataqua River between Portsmouth, NH and Kittery, ME.

Intermittent bridge lifts associated with the bridge inspection may result in motor vehicle, pedestrian, and river traffic delays. In addition, the bridge will be closed to motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic on Monday, July 9 and Tuesday, July 10 from approximately 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm.

Flag persons, message signs and warning signs will be used to notify motorists of the bridge closure. Motorists traveling between Portsmouth and Kittery are asked to use alternate routes if possible to avoid the delays.

In the event of adverse weather, the inspection work may be delayed until the next suitable workday.
