NIGHT RUMBLE STRIP MILLING TO BEGIN ON I- 93 IN MANCHESTER
SAFETY ENHANCEMENT WILL BE EXTENDED TO THE MASSACHUSETTS STATE LINE

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation announces rumble strip milling is scheduled to begin the week of July 9, 2001 on Interstate 93 in Manchester.

Rumble strips are milled-in grooves placed several inches apart on roadside shoulders and medians. Studies have found that rumble strips placed on controlled access highways reduce drive-off-the-road crashes by 30 to 50 percent.

This latest rumble strip project will extend rumble strips on Interstate 93 from Manchester to the Massachusetts border in Salem, a distance of approximately 25 miles.

This night work is expected to take about two weeks to complete. The rumble strip milling will take place between the hours of 7:00 pm and 6:00 am and will require lane closures. State Troopers will be used to guide motorists through the moving work zone.

Surface Preparation Technologies, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, is the contractor for the $244,700 project.
