POWER CABLE REPAIRS ON MEMORIAL BRIDGE (US ROUTE 1) IN PORTSMOUTH

BRIDGE TO BE CLOSED TO MOTOR VEHICLES AND PEDESTRIANS

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation announces power cable repairs will take place at the Memorial Bridge on U.S. Route 1 between Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Kittery, Maine. The work will require the lift bridge to be closed to motor vehicles and pedestrians during the day on Monday, September 25.

A New Hampshire Department of Transportation crew will close the bridge from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on September 25. Changeable message signs will be in place before the work to advise motorists of the closure. Plans are to use advance warning signs, barricades, and flaggers to prevent vehicles and pedestrians from entering the bridge.

Marine traffic and access to residences and businesses approaching the bridge will not be affected by the work. Motorists are advised to use U.S. Route 1 Bypass or I-95 as alternate routes to bypass the closure. In the event of adverse weather, this work may be delayed until the next suitable workday.

Motorists traveling on U.S. Route 1 in Portsmouth and Kittery are requested to use caution when approaching the work area. Delays may be encountered.
