BLASTING TO BEGIN AT MANCHESTER I-93 PROJECT
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation announces blasting operations are scheduled to begin the week of August 14, 2000 at the Interstate 93 improvement project in Manchester near Bodwell Road and Interstate 293. This blasting work, which involves the removal of portions of ledge rock faces, is expected to take place on weekdays on a daily basis, weather permitting, for approximately the next twelve months. Blasting will take place for a short period in the morning hours between 9:00 am and noon, usually around 10:00 am. This work will require brief interruptions of both northbound and southbound traffic on I-93 to ensure the safety of motorists. Traffic will be interrupted for no more than ten minutes daily and will resume with the assistance of State Police rolling roadblocks. Motorists should anticipate these weekday morning blasting operations for the next several months and adjust their travel schedules to allow for enough time to reach their destinations. This two year project, which began May 1, 2000, is reconstructing, widening and improving four bridges and nearly two miles of I-93 northbound and southbound in the area of the merge with I-293. The project also includes the reconstruction of sections of Bodwell Road and Corning Road. Barletta Heavy Division, of Seabrook, New Hampshire is the general contractor for the $14.2 million project, which is scheduled to be completed by June 2002. |
