VANDAL DESTROYS I-89 WEIGH STATION SCALE HOUSE IN LEBANON
STATE POLICE SAY LARGE TRUCK BACKED INTO BUILDING

New Hampshire State Police are investigating what appears to be the deliberate destruction of a scale house next to Interstate 89 in Lebanon. Police are describing the vandalism as criminal mischief.

The scale house, located on the northbound side of I-89, was struck a total of three times on two different occasions. State Police believe someone intentionally backed a large truck into the north side of the building, knocking it nearly two feet off its foundation and heavily damaging the 20 by 25 foot structure. The separate incidents were discovered on July 3 and July 25, 2000.

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation has assessed the structure to be a total loss. It will be torn down on Friday, July 28, and plans are being expedited to replace the building with a more modern facility.

Anyone with any information regarding the destruction of the scale house on I-89 in Lebanon is urged to call New Hampshire State Police or the NHDOT District 2 office at 448-2654.
