WEEKLY AND WEEKEND TRAFFIC RECORDS SET
More vehicles passed through New Hampshire toll facilities during the past week than ever before. For the week ending Sunday, July 23, 2000, a total of 2,297,195 vehicles passed through the New Hampshire Turnpike System. That's nearly 60,000 more vehicles than the previous weekly record of 2,240,861 set during the seven day period ending August 8, 1999. The new weekend record established Friday, July 21 through Sunday, July 23, is 1,029,464 vehicles, topping the previous weekend mark of 1,018,060 set during the three day period that ended August 1, 1999. Two other traffic records were broken on Friday, June 21, on the Spaulding Turnpike in Dover and Rochester. The new single day record at the Dover toll plaza is 46,972. That tops the previous mark of 45,541 set on July 30, 1999. The new single day record for vehicles at the Rochester toll plaza is 31,707, breaking the previous record of 31,215 set on July 16, 1999. Overall, the weekly turnpike traffic numbers were up 3.4% over the same time period last year and the weekend numbers were up about 4.2%. |
