Creating a New MX Project

Prerequisites

Before starting work on the project a directory must be created on the M:\ drive to store the data.  Requests for new projects should go through Bill Caswell or Jerry Gall.
If the project currently exists on the VAX, the model file needs to be transferred to the PC network before continuing. See the MX FAQ for more details.

Creating the Project

  • Start MX in Windows.
  • Select "New Project" from the splash screen.
  • Select the project units (US_metric or US_Imperial).
  • Browse to the project directory (m:\pbt\town\number\cadd\prj).
  • Enter the new project name in the format name number such as Grafton 12803
  • Check the "Edit project settings" checkbox.
  • The next prompt will be for the naming convention.  Select YES to use the standard naming convention.
  • When the project settings panel appears, select the "System Parameters" tab and set the default drawing scale.
  • If this is an Imperial project see the note below for working on Imperial projects.
  • If the project was transferred from Classic MOSS, you will be warned that the model file already exists.  DO NOT overwrite the model file.  Select NO on the warning message.

Imperial Projects

Note: By default, MX projects are created metric.  If you have an Imperial project you need to edit the project settings. This can be done by selecting the "Edit project settings" checkbox on the project selection panel (before the project is opened). Then select the "Project Files" tab.  In the "Directories" section make the following changes:

PublicMacros m:\cadd\mx\imperial_macros
PrivateMacros m:\cadd\mx\imperial_macros
ProjectMacros m:\cadd\mx\imperial_macros
PublicStyles m:\cadd\mx\imperial_styles
PrivateStyles m:\cadd\mx\imperial_styles
ProjectStyles m:\cadd\mx\imperial_styles

If the model file was copied from the VAX you will get a warning noting that the model file already exists and asking if it should be overwritten.  Answer NO.
