Things to be Aware of Before Starting MfM
Prerequisites
Before starting MX for MicroStation (MfM), it is recommended to enter MX for Windows (MX) to ensure that the desired Project and MX drawing are current.
Upon starting MfM, MX will search for and enter a MicroStation drawing file (DGN) with the same name as the current MX Drawing file (DPW/DPF). It is recommended that this DGN be created prior to starting MfM to ensure that the proper seed files were referenced. If this DGN with the same name does not exist, then one will be created automatically.
If a DGN with the same name already exists and contains data, then it is recommended to make a back-up copy of the DGN prior to starting MfM. Some changes made to the MicroStation drawing by MfM during its startup process are irreversible. Exiting the session without saving changes will not undo all modifications.
MX Graphics Altered
For subsequent visits to MfM, the following happens based on which MX graphics have been altered since the last MfM session:
- Any graphical MX data removed from the DPW/DPF will be automatically removed from the DGN when returning to MfM.
- Any graphical MX data added to the DPW/DPF will transfer to the DGN when returning to MfM.
- Any graphical edits made to MX data that have been previously transferred to MicroStation will require redisplaying using Plan with Style Set after returning to MfM.
To prevent unexpected changes to MicroStation graphics that have been transferred to or from MX, run MXChange to remove MX attribute data from these elements. More information can be found on the MXChange information page.
MicroStation Graphics Altered
For subsequent visits to MfM, the following happens based on which MicroStation graphics have been altered since the last MfM session:
- Any changes made to MicroStation elements that were previously transferred from MX will be restored to their MX integrity only after redisplaying using Plan With Style Set.
- Elements created solely by MicroStation should remain unaffected.
To prevent unexpected changes to MicroStation graphics that have been transferred to or from MX, run MXChange to remove MX attribute data from these elements. More information can be found on the MXChange information page.
