CAD/D Home > MX > Creating Alignment Drawings (NHAlign)

Creating a MicroStation alignment drawing is a combination of MX add-in and MicroStation macro.  The MX add-in will create the DPW file that will be the base of the drawing.  The MicroStation basic macro will perform some cleanup work on the drawing. Another macro can be run to add curve data.

The MX add-in "NHAlign.exe" is a replacement for the Create Alignment Drawing program that was originally developed by Maine DOT.  Before it can be used, it must be added to your Add-in menu.  If you are unsure how to do this, see the Add-in menu documentation.
Note: For NHDOT designers, this program is stored in N:\cadd\cadd\mx\add-ins\.
create alignment drawing dialog

  • Select the model name from the pull-down menu.  Style and Feature set should be set to mxroad.
  • Alignment strings in that model will be displayed.
  • Select the string(s) you would like to draw. Make sure they are valid alignment string names. Names such as the "MC90" shown in the graphic do not match the naming convention and may cause the program to crash.
  • Note:  The program has been modified to allow multiple alignments to be drawn simultaneously.
  • Enter the new drawing name. This will become the name of the dpw file.  If the 12345ali.dgn already exists with alignments in it use a different drawing name (e.g. aliMCAM) so you don't over write your ali drawing.
  • Adjust the scale if necessary
  • The Use Private Styles option is available if there is a need to draw the alignment differently than NHDOT standards. An mxroad style set must exist in the project directory for this to work.
  • Click the OK button.

Once the alignments are drawn, the program for creating alignment reports will be run.

If these alignments will be transferred to MicroStation you will need to choose the "Save to File" button to save the report for future use. Keep track of the name you give the report.   You will need it later.

Cancel this panel and exit MX. Reports for other alignments can be created by clicking the Clear Output button, selecting a new alignment and clicking the Apply button.

See Creating a MicroStation Alignment Drawing v8 logo for a continuation of this procedure.

To Be Aware Of

When the alignments are drawn in MX, there will be two sets of station values.  This is corrected in MicroStation.

You cannot add alignments from multiple models to the same drawing.
