Plotting MicroStation Cut Sheets

Plotting Cut Sheets

  1. From MicroStation, enter "BatchPlot":
    File => Batch Print/Plot
  2. Upon entering BatchPlot, you should receive the following error message:
    batchplot error
    (This is due to users not having write access to all of the M drive.)  Ignore this message by either minimizing the message or click on MicroStation.  The message will disappear when you close MicroStation.
  3. From "BatchPlot", specify the drawing file(s) by selecting the "Add Design Files" button, or:
    Edit => Add Files
  4. Select file(s) to plot.  Hit the "Add" button. An entry should appear in the "Selected Files" list box.
  5. Click "Done" to return to BatchPlot.  Selected files should now be listed in the "Design Files To Plot" list box.
  6. In the "Specifications Controlling Plotting" list box, highlight "Printer".
  7. To specify a printer, select the "Select Specifications" button, or:
    Specifications => Select
  8. Select the desired printer from the "Select Printer Specification" list.
  9. Select "OK" to return to BatchPlot.
  10. In the "Specification Controlling Plotting" list box, leave "Plot Area" set to "Borders" (BatchPlot will find all borders in your selected design files).
  11. Also in the "Specification Controlling Plotting" list box, leave "Layout" and "Display" set to "Default".
  12. Should you only want plots from some of the files listed in the "Design Files to Plot" list box, then select the files that you want to print.  Select a single design file with the left mouse button or use <Shift> or <Ctrl> to select multiple design files.
  13. In BatchPlot, select the "Print" button or:
    File => Print
  14. From the "Print" panel, in the print range area, select either "Selection" to print only the selected files or "All" to ignore any selection and print all files.
  15. Select "OK" to send the files to the printer.  In the lower right section of the screen you should see the following: BatchPlot: files:X, plots:Y, failures:Z".  "X" is the number of files scanned, "Y" is the number of borders that were printed, and "Z" is the number of errors that occurred.  To check what errors occurred, if any, open the "batchplt.log" file, which should be either in the CADD or the PRJ directory of your active project.
  16. BatchPlot files can be saved for repeated use.  Either use the File => Save or the File => Save As command.
  17. Upon exiting from BatchPlot, you will encounter the following error message: if any modifications were made to the "Printer", "Plot Area", "Layout" or "Display" specification properties (using the "Specification Properties" button or Specifications => Properties).
    batchplor error

General notes to keep in mind:

     Portrait and landscape borders will need to be in separate BatchPlot files, i.e. the vertical cross section borders will need to be separate from the rest of the cut sheet borders.

     Borders brought in before 12/12/01 will need to be updated in your design files, in order for BatchPlot to be able to find them.  To update the border cells use the "Replace Cells" button (method update) from the following toolbar: Tools => Main => Cells.  You will need to update all borders in all your dgns in this way.

     BatchPlot will find the borders if the outside cut line of the border is Level=1 (Level=Border
v8 logo), Style=0, Weight=0, Color=84(yellow), and in View 1.  To plot properly, the border rotation should be either horizontal or vertical with respect to View 1.

     Batch plot is setup by default not to print construction lines.

     The order in which the files are listed is the order that they are printed.  You can use the following commands to manipulate their order:
     Edit => Move Files to Top
     Edit => Move Files Up
     Edit => Move Files Down
     Edit => Move Files to Bottom

     If your design files have moved to a different directory, or its name has changed, you will need to do the following:
     1.  Remove the files from BatchPlot and then re-add them or
     2.  Edit the file path by: Edit => Edit File Paths
