| Q: Who can submit a research suggestion?
A: Research suggestions can be submitted by anyone at any time. The Department periodically solicits for research ideas; however, it is not necessary to respond to a solicitation in order to submit an idea.
Q: How are research suggestions submitted?
A: A Research Project Suggestion form is used to submit a research idea. Ideas originating from outside the Department require the endorsement of a voting member of the NHDOT Research Advisory Council (NHDOT RAC). Download a research project suggestion form in Adobe pdf or Microsoft Word format. A list of current NHDOT RAC members is available via Email: Glenn Roberts
Q: What happens when I submit a research suggestion?
A: The NHDOT research office confirms receipt of the suggestion form and informs the submitter of the status of the suggestion. Suggestions for research are normally subject to review and prioritization by the NHDOT RAC. Suggestions that are considered appropriate for one or more of the pooled-fund programs in which the Department participates are inventoried and submitted under the procedures of those programs.
Q: My research suggestion is selected by NHDOT for funding. What happens next?
A: A Technical Advisory Group (TAG) is formed for all projects conducted by or sponsored by NHDOT. The TAG is made up of experts in the field of study and may include personnel from outside NHDOT. The committee develops a work plan and preliminary budget for the project and recommends whether the work should be conducted in-house or under contract. For contracted studies, the TAG identifies potential researchers, issues RFPs, reviews proposals, recommends selection of the researcher, monitors the research, and reviews reports. On all projects, the TAG is actively involved in implementation of the completed research.
