HOUSING COMMITTEE
GOALS & MISSION STATEMENT
The Governor's Commission on Disability (GCD) Housing Committee is committed to promoting housing that is available to and usable by people of all abilities!
GOALS
1. Substantiate need for more housing
2. Provide resources
3. Inventory Accessible rental units.
4. Estimate the demand – current and future for accessible housing.
5. Promote universal design
6. Become a clearinghouse for clients, landlords and organizations.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
1. As of March 2006 New Hampshire Housing now has a published directory of assisted housing on its web site. Its directory lists units currently subsidized with funding from Housing & Urban Development (HUD), US Dept. of Agriculture - Rural Development (USDA-RD), or New Hampshire Housing (NHH) through permanent financing of rental assistance. There is also a list of available rental units. See www.nhhfa.org.
2. Granite State Independent Living's (GSIL’s) Housing registry was up and running in May 2003. See www.gsil.org.
3. GCD Housing Committee members have attended the NHHFA Annual Conferences setting up displays of materials and handouts for the past several years.
4. GCD Housing Committee members have attended the NH Home Builders & Remodelers Conference with displays for several years.
5. GCD Produced a handout brochure for distribution at conferences and mailing.
6. GCD Produced letter for organizations in the promotion of adaptable and accessible housing.
