NEW HAMPSHIRE BOARD OF DENTAL EXAMINERS

LICENSURE INFORMATION

A. Dentists
Applicants are required to be graduates of an accredited American Dental Association program and are eligible for licensure either by examination or endorsement certification.
 
Examination - Successful completion of the Northeast Regional Board Examination (NERB), or similar regional board examination acceptable to the Board, within the last 3 years.
The written portion of the NERB must be passed by all applicants for licensure by examination.
 
Endorsement Certification - For the 3 years immediately prior to submitting an application, the applicant is required to have maintained an active dental practice in one or more states, or been in a dental specialty training program, or have been in active military dental service, or any combination of the aforementioned.
 
B. Dental Hygienists
Applicants are required to be graduates of an accredited ADA program and are eligible for licensure either by examination or endorsement certification.
 
Examination - Successful completion of the Northeast Regional Board examination, or similar regional board examination acceptable to the Board, within the last 3 years.
 
Endorsement Certification - Requires an applicant to be actively practicing dental hygiene for the 3 years immediately prior to submitting an application, in one or more states.
 
C. Licenses are renewed biennially on April 1 of even-numbered years. Beginning in 2003, hygienists will renew in odd number years.

Continuing Education

* One CEU shall be given for each hour of attendance at lectures, seminars, and meetings. For each hour of attendance at clinical or laboratory participatory courses, 2 CEUs shall be given. Successful completion of an entire course or segment of a course shall be required to receive continuing education credit for that course.

* The CEUs completed during the 2 years preceding April 1st of even numbered years shall conform to the criteria identified throughout the rules.

* All dental hygienists with an active New Hampshire license shall complete a minimum of 20 CEUs of continuing education per biennium. At least 15 CEUs shall be earned in clinical dental care subjects, including successful completion of a basic life support course given by an American Heart Association, Red Cross, National Safety Counsel, or American Safety and Health Institute qualified instructor.

* All dentists with an active New Hampshire license shall complete a minimum of 40 CEUs of continuing education per biennium. At least 30 CEUs shall be earned in clinical dental care subjects, including successful completion of a basic life support course given by an American Heart Association, Red Cross, National Safety Counsel, or American Safety and Health Institute qualified instructor.
