EXECUTIVE COUNCIL REPORT
By Raymond S. Burton
May 12, 2009 was a historic day on the lawn and plaza of the New Hampshire State House in Concord, NH.
For many months a group of community, business and educational leaders from the northern most New Hampshire county of Coos have been planning a day titled "Coos Goes South!"
The general purpose was to bring awareness of rural life to the NH State House by way of samples of the rural woods culture and economic life in this area far distant from Concord, NH and Washington, DC.
Presentations about Coos health care, tourism, arts and culture, wood energy, telecommunications, and entrepreneurship were all a part of the day long State House Lawn event.
The Balsams, Mt. View Grand Hotel, and Mt. Washington Hotel provided the 'best of the best' buffets from Coos County. Governor Lynch joined the festivities to present a Governor and Council proclamation for the day.
I have been working in the NH State House since 1967 in some capacity and this event marked the first time a NH County has made such a grand presentation and it certainly paid off! All day NH State administrators, commissioners, and dozens of state employees and State House neighbors joined in tasting (literally) the best of Coos County. The tents with information and displays, along with the food court, were extremely professional presentations.
Commendations to all who made it happen!
