Sanbornton, NH - Councilor Ray Burton made an official visit to the I-93 Rest Area Welcome Center, Southbound. Burton expressed his strong support to keep these rest areas open for public use. 8 of the 16 rest areas have been proposed to close.
"Some 250,000 people stop at the Sanbornton sound bound area. To shut rest areas like this one or the others is un-acceptable. July 1, of this year the Dept. of Vacation and Travel will have the responsibility of operating these rest areas and welcome stations. The staff of all of them have been the first impression of New Hampshire. The trucking industry also has a key role in that commercial drivers are required by federal law to rest to maintain their licenses. The areas provide a very effective outlet for tourist information throughout the region and beyond. I intend to work as closely as I can with Commissioner George Bald and Director Lori Harnois to keep these centers operating." Burton stated.
